What is Imago Therapy?

Imago Relationship Therapy  (IRT) was developed 25 years ago by Dr. Harville Hendrix, author of the New York Times best seller Getting the Love You Want and Keeping the Love You Find. It provides resources for couples, therapists, or individuals seeking to find a way to be more successful in their relationships and in their lives.

Your “Imago” is a picture you form in your mind of the positive and negative traits of your childhood caretakers which becomes the template by which you select your partner for an intimate partnership.

Imago Therapy helps couples move beyond their conflicts and re-connect using a new way of talking together, called the  Imago dialogue. The “Imago Dialogue” allows couples to move from blame and reactivity, to understanding and empathy, so they can create a deeper and loving connection with each other. With this approach, one’s committed relationship becomes a safe place to heal, learn and grow.
